As we continue Book Week here on FabTalk, today we’ll focus on art quilting and fabric art. There have been some wonderfully-creative releases this year that will help you learn to unleash your creative side in quilts and fabric. Here are a few highlights.

Eighteen projects walk you through techniques to create wall hangings, unusual greeting cards and gift wrap, art dolls, banners and apparel. You’ll look at fabric art in a whole new way!

Collage Fusion: Vibrant Wood & Fabric Art Using Telmadera Techniques by Alma de la Melena Cox, F & W Media
This is a very unusual book teaches you twenty techniques which are accompanied by a finished piece of inspirational art, as well as 10 fully projects using art techniques that translate to variety of crafts. The inspiration projects alone make this book worth it–many of the techniques were ones I have not seen in other books.

Fabric + Paint + Thread = Fabulous by Pat Durban, Martingale
If you want to take your quilting in a new direction, Pat Durban’s book is your guide. She’ll teach you to paint on fabric to make a simple landscape background, use thread to “paint” realistic trees, leaves, and more onto stabilizer and apply them to the quilt. There are five complete projects in this book, each providing you with thorough instruction in this interesting technique.
